Seamless Tiling Textures

Brick Wall Texture

In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to make seamless tiling textures for your 3d models in Photoshop. In this example I'll keep things simple and create a brick wall texture.

1. First create a new 512x512 px document.

2. Next place your image into the document on a new layer.

3. Now click Filter > Other > Offset

4. Then off set your image horizontally by 256 px. This will make the left and right edges meet in the centre.

5. This should give you the result you can see below.

6. Now we need to remove the seam from the centre of the image. To do this I use the Spot Healing tool for the majority of the work and then finish it off using the Clone Stamp tool. At this point ensure you also fix any uneven lighting and remove any elements that would stand out when the texture is tiled (such the red brick).

7.  Repeat steps 3-6 this time offsetting the image 256 px vertically.

8. Now you've removed the both the horizontal and vertical seams, use the Filter > Offset to rest the image to it original position. That's that you've just made a seamless tiling texture.
