Custom Photoshop Brushes

Custom hair brush

In this quick tutorial I going to show you just how easy it is to make your own custom brushes in Photoshop. In this example I'm going to make a brush for painting hair.

First create a new Photoshop 400x400 px document.

Next using a black hard round brush draw pattern similar to the one I've created bellow.
Be sure to vary your stroke size, this well help give a natural result.

Now click Edit > Define Brush Preset.

Then name your new brush.

Almost finished. The last thing you need to do is tweak the preset settings so the brush behaves the way you want it to. For this particular brush you'll need to change the Brush Tip Shape > Spacing to 1%. This will give you a nice even solid stroke.

And that's that you've just created your own custom brush for painting hair.
